To make this Mother’s Day more special, KISANY has teamed up with Thea Jewelry to create a limited edition of bespoke pouches.
When we first met with Thea Jewelry, a company that makes unique, ethical and bespoke signature jewelry, we immediately connected on our shared goals to support women.
Together, we designed a pouch with the signature typography of Thea jewelry to celebrate the light shone by the mothers we know. Each pouch is hand embroidered and made in 15 hours in Goma, DR Congo by four amazing artisans (and moms) Odile, Justine, Esperance and Jeannette. With each stitch they share their light to celebrate them and the “Madame Rayonne” in our lives.
Made from 100% Belgian and sustainable linen from Libeco each piece is made to last like the strength of those behind it.
And each piece not only provides work to these formidable artisans, but will also help support in training programs.
As a limited solidarity edition dedicated to mothers, girlfriends, businesswomen and sisters at heart, half of the profits will be used to finance a 6-month training programme in agro-ecology for two girl-mothers (aged 16-25) in Goma, DR Congo. This program is managed by our partner NGO: En avant les enfants.
The aim of the training is to help these girl mothers (aged between 16 and 25), who are responsible for many people, to get out of the extreme poverty in which they find themselves. They will learn the basics of market gardening, grafting, planting, beekeeping and raising chickens and rabbits. This 6-month training aims for these young mothers to re-enter communities through income-generating activities. Through these basic skills they can take steps towards financial independence.
Expected results after the training :
> Produce vegetables, feed their families and sell the surplus
> Graft fruit trees for replanting
> To raise awareness of the importance of trees and reforestation
> Produce honey and use the products of the apiary
> Raising poultry, caring for them and producing eggs for food or trade
> Raising rabbits and guinea pigs, caring for them and producing organic fertiliser.
> Fight against malnutrition in families by providing animal proteins
