Bed linen is not only a question of aesthetics but also comfort and wellbeing. Investing in proper bedding and linen is proven to help you rest better and improve your state of mind.
We often get questions about how to choose bedlinen, so we have created a guide based on our 15 years of experience on the subject !
Firstly, choose the material that suits you best
There are different materials for your bed linen. Natural or synthetic, each has its own advantages and feel. There is something for everyone!
Cotton: This material is the most commonly used for bed linen. Cotton sheet sets and duvet covers are durable and comfortable. At KISANY, we have opted for 100% Egyptian cotton percale because it is a long staple cotton quality that will be passed on from generation to generation. It is a cotton with a minimum of 200 threads per square inch (200 TC), which gives it an elegant feel and look.
Linen: This material is particularly strong, durable and hypoallergenic. Linen sheets are ideal in the summer as it is a breathable fibre and allows perspiration and moisture to evaporate. At KISANY, we use Belgian linen, which is known worldwide, because it is an environmentally friendly crop that does not require irrigation.
Sateen: Cotton sateen is characterized by an extreme softness and a shiny and silky finish on one side and matte on the other. Its special weave and the number of threads give it such a pleasant appearance. For sensitive skin, it is an absolutely perfect fitted sheet, but we recommend it in summer, as satin takes time to adapt to body heat.
Silk: Silk is often synonymous with luxury and supreme elegance. This material does not irritate the skin and thanks to the particular constitution of its fibres, it offers comfort in both summer and winter. Sometimes called natural silk, viscose is also in great demand among household linen manufacturers.
Flannel: Flannel bed linen has a downy feel. It is particularly suitable for winter because it is warm.
Cashmere: Cashmere bed linen mixed with cotton is the perfect combination for warm and soft blankets and duvet covers that will warm up your winters.
Secondly, choose linen colours or designs
Bed linen is available in a range of colours and designs. At KISANY, we typically recommend using linen in shades of white as they are calming. Embroidered designs then add colour and links with the rest of the room to create a safe haven to cocoon in. Matching bed linen with curtains, carpets or other touches is a great way to enhance the overall ambiance of the room.
Thirdly, picking the right dimensions
This is where most people have trouble when selecting their bed linen. There are a range of standard sizes that vary across countries. And of course the possibility to create something custom made.
We recommend confirming the size of your bed and height of your mattress before ordering bed linen. Here is a table with recommended sizes to help.
For a curved effect, choose a pillow slightly larger than the case. Don’t forget to air the room every day for 15 minutes and to change the pillowcases and sheets 2 to 3 times a month.
