This summer, KISANY breaks the codes with this new capsule collection designed by the Brussels-based graphic designer and illustrator Greg Ewing. The collection is inspired by convict tattoos from the 1920s and 1930s. At that time, tattoos were worn by bad boys and were highly frowned upon by society. They featured themes such as roses, daggers, chains, etc. With this capsule collection, we wanted to take the art of vintage tattoos and put it into a different light through embroidery.
Greg has an extraordinary talent and we tell you about his journey and our collaboration.
Greg has been working since 2005 and is now self-employed to create logos, visual identities and merchandising for brands, bars, clubs or tattoo shops. Since 2017, he has also been working with the crisp brand Superbon to create their identity and develop their packaging.
He loves all the opportunities he is offered as it represents a new discovery and a new challenge!
But why KISANY?
We met Greg through Thierry Struvay, a Brussels gallery owner with a passion for art and beautiful things.
For several years now, Thierry has been organising a Christmas pop-up in the Natan shop in Brussels, each time putting forward different artists with original and offbeat tones. For several years now, Thierry has been featuring KISANY’s products in his event.
Last year, Thierry and Greg decided to work on a common project and joined forces to design this unique collection inspired by tattoos. The few pieces presented at the pop-up were such a success that we decided to rework the designs together to make an offbeat capsule collection.
Where does his inspiration come from?
For this collection, Greg was inspired by the so-called “americana” style of traditional American tattoos from the 50’s to the 70’s. He took these classics and put them in a new context. He took these classics and gave them a more modern touch while keeping the basic colours (green – blue – red) which brings more coherence between the different visuals. The result is beautiful and is available on towels, kitchen towels, glasses cases and clutch bags, available on our eShop.
