As our business grows, we are aware that we need to take greater steps to protect the environment. It is not enough to simply create sustainable products, we must seek to have an impact that is as ecological as it is social.
This is why we are committed to offsetting our CO2 emissions. Since 2019, we have financed the planting of 1400 trees in Goma, DR Congo.
Why Goma ? Firstly because this is where our partner AGAPE workshop is located and secondly because the volcanic eruption of Nyiragongo in 2002 destroyed half of the city’s trees. So it is the ideal location to begin this project.
How are we able to do this ? We partnered with the VSK program of our partner NGO En Avant Les Enfants to set up the tree nursery. Adolescents who have unfortunately not had access to school are trained by this program in agroforestry. Using their new skills, they are plant different varieties of local fruit trees and other pollinators throughout the city of Goma. In addition, they closely monitor their trees to ensure their growth. Our funding also allows them to build new seedlings and buy several kg of seeds to continue this program and the fight against climate change.
KISANY is honoured to support this team in Goma and their extraordinary work.
